JOY English School is seeking for qualified and dynamic ESL Instructors to teach JOY ESJ’s English courses part-time for our increasing number of young learners.

JOY English offers English courses in the following areas:

  •  Communication

  •  Grammar

  •  English Test Preparation

  •  Speech/Public Speaking

  •  Stage Performance

Job Description:

Teachers are expected to deliver high quality lessons, prepare lessons designed to increase students’ language skills, their accuracy and fluency, appropriate to a broad range of situations and needs, and in accordance with the JOY English Curriculum Guidelines and Course Outlines.

Responsibilities include:

  • Eliciting students’ interests and language needs in an organized way

  • Assessing students language needs and planning lessons in accords with JOY English Curriculum and Student Progress Reports for the level being taught

  • Evaluating student progress and accomplishing Student Progress Reports selecting appropriate materials and resources

  • Using materials effectively

  • Selecting and creating appropriate supplementary materials

  • Creating an atmosphere that encourages all students in selfexpression, independent thinking and learning, cooperation and leadership 

  • Planning activities that reflect the experiential aspect of language and culture

The teacher is expected to use a range of modern and traditional language learning techniques and methodology including the following

  • Building students’ vocabulary acquisition for formal and informal situations e.g. dialogues, discussion, role-plays, outings

  • Introducing, practicing and reviewing language structures(grammar) using a communicative approach

  • Developing communication strategies such as initiating,maintaining, closing of verbal interactions across a wide spectrum of situations drawn from daily life

  • Increasing communicative skill through appropriate question andanswer techniques

  • Shaping pronunciation and speech production towards naturalEnglish

  • Supporting and encouraging students to self-correct​

All ESL teachers at JOY must possess the following qualifications

- A completed Bachelor’s degree
- A completed ESL teaching training certificate (TEFL , TESOL,TESL, CELTA, DELTA)

Requirements

  1. Native (or native fluent) speaker

  2. Hold a valid residence/visa status for Japan.

  3. University graduate with at least a bachelor’s degree.

  4. Have had at least 12 years of education where the medium of instruction was English.

  5. CV with Photo and Cover Letter

  6. Copy of Teaching Certificate(s)

  7. Ideally hold a Japanese driving license or a valid international permit.

For Part-time Position

  • We currently have a number of part time positions available in Hadano area in Kanagawa. Our lessons are offered from 10:00 - 20:30 on weekdays and 9:00 - 14:00 on Saturdays. Most lessons are on a fixed yearly schedule, so people who can commit to a year is preferable.

  • You can start teaching from one class per week. Our schedule is very flexible.

  • Please Note that the schools hold lessons 6 days a week, as well as on Japanese National Holidays.

  • Hourly rate increase by your performance, based on monthly evaluation

  • Transportation is reimbursed.

  • A paid intensive on-the-job training for one to three months is required (depending on your experience).

Possible Future Offer:

If the person does great performance on his/her job and both he/she and JOY ENGLISH mutually agree upon renewing his/her contract, we would be happy to offer him/her a long-term full-time teaching position with a visa sponsorship.
